BIOSKETCHExperienced sport scientist and lecturer across the higher education industry, skilled in athletic development, applied sports physiology and exercise science. Effective and dynamic education professional with a sport science masters degree and strength & conditioning qualifications, I aim to enhance understanding and aptitude for individuals to achieve effective management of sportspeople, and improve health outcomes for the general population. As a fitness and conditioning coordinator, I utilize innovative practical learning to achieve educational goals.
Mr Jed Davidson completed an Exercise Science Honours degree in 2010 with a Strength and Conditioning Specialist qualification, before completing a Masters degree investigating Comrades Marathon runners in 2014, both at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. He then embarked on employment as a sports facility manager and exercise specialist, and lecturing stints at UKZN Edgewood Campus and UKZN Sport Science. In 2017, he was appointed as a lecturer at UKZN at the Discipline of Biokinetics, Exercise and Leisure Sciences, and is currently working on a PhD project investigating athletic development of junior soccer players.
RESEARCH INTERESTSJed is interested in promoting physical literacy and movement education, particularly concerning youth athletes and talent development. Areas of current research interest include athletic development analysis, fitness assessment, sports facility evaluation and sport in children with disabilities.
