The Discipline of Biokinetics, Exercise and Leisure Sciences is home to a fully equipped Human Performance Laboratory, designed to support cutting-edge teaching, research, and athlete testing services.
The facility plays a central role in our mission to advance human movement science through evidence-based practice. It supports both undergraduate and postgraduate practical training and is regularly used for academic research in the fields of exercise physiology, biomechanics, rehabilitation, and sport performance.
In addition to its academic function, the lab provides specialised testing services for a wide range of athletes—from school and university level to elite performers. These services include:
- Cardiovascular fitness assessments (e.g., VO₂ max testing)
- Musculoskeletal screening and flexibility analysis
- Strength and power profiling
- Body composition analysis
- Sport-specific performance evaluations
Our Human Performance Laboratory supports collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and community partners. Whether the goal is optimising performance, monitoring training adaptations, or guiding rehabilitation, the lab provides a scientific foundation for informed decision-making and personalised intervention.
This state-of-the-art facility reflects our commitment to producing work-ready graduates and advancing applied sport science in South Africa.
