Discipline Outreach Activities

The Discipline of Biokinetics, Exercise Science and Leisure Science covers three areas of specialisation. The Human Performance Laboratory provides scientific support through physiological assessment in collaboration with Prime Human Performance Institute, of elite regional and national athletes such as the SA swimming squad and para-olympic dressage as well as professional teams, such as the AmaZulu football team.

The Biokinetics laboratory is involved in the post physiotherapy rehabilitation of individuals with musculoskeletal injury and conducts a clinic to address health-related fitness and exercise programming in the management of chronic diseases of lifestyle. In the Leisure Studies field, new partnerships have been established with public service entities Ethekwini Metropolitan Council and the Department of EAP at the Premiers Office (KZN) to provide leisure time opportunities and improve the quality of life for all. Other outreach initiatives include adapted physical activity programming at RP Moodley Special School and the EAP Wellness Centre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
