BIOSKETCHDr Siphamandla Nyawose has been a dedicated Lecturer in higher education since 2013. Throughout his career, he has taught at institutions such as Varsity College, Durban University of Technology, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Edgewood campus), before joining the Biokinetics, Exercise, and Leisure Sciences discipline at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in July 2018. A qualified Exercise Scientist, Siphamandla earned his PhD with a focus on developing an amino acid beverage aimed at improving fatigue tolerance in football players. His PhD research was supported by the prestigious NRF Thuthuka grant. He is also a member-student of the Functional Foods and Nutrition Research (FFNR) Laboratory. For more details, visit

Dr Nyawose has presented his work at both national and international conferences. Notably, he received a certificate of excellence at the 2022 International Festival of Sports, Exercise & Medicine Conference (more details can be found
here). Additionally, Dr Nyawose was invited as a keynote speaker at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s “Wellness Through Sport” workshop, organised by the student services department.
